In the Resurrection Whose Wife Will She be?
Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she for seven had her to wife 34: And Jesus answering said to them The children of this age marry and are given in marriage 35: But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage 36: Neither can they die any more for they are equal to the angels and are the children of God being the children of the resurrection
A good question to ask complementarian teachers who claim that a man is his wife’s authority even beyond this life into the resurrection. If a woman has been widowed and married again, or if a man has been widowed and married again, quite a conundrum is created with complementarian doctrine that claims a husband is a wife’s authority in both this life and the next, but that he will also answer for her at the Judgement Seat of Christ. Jesus clearly stated in verse 35 that there would be no such thing as a marriage relationship when this earthly life is over.
Ibid. Both God’s female children and his male children will be equal to the angels in the resurrection. That means they will be absolutely equal to each other in the resurrection as well. Genesis 1:27-28 establishes that God’s male and female creation were intended to be functionally equal from their creation. Genesis 3:16 is a cursed consequence [for both the woman and the man] of cursed behavior. It was never a command for a man to take authority over a woman or for a woman to submit to a man’s authority.
